Biography and Artist Profile
Maryjo Querry |
|
Mary Jo's passion for creating art began as a healing journey after a diagnosis of breast cancer. She attended a retreat for women cancer survivors that forever changed how she looks at life, how she sees herself and more importantly, how she views her surroundings. Art became her passion and her escape.
The art community in southern California has afforded Mary Jo excellent opportunities to find her artistic voice. She's studied with respected local artists George Kyle, Jackie Kamin, Jeff Horn and John Cosby. And she has attended workshops with talented contemporary artists David Leffel, Sherrie McGraw, Jean Chambers, Robert Johnson and Casey Baugh.
"Giving Back" is an important part of Mary Jo's growth as an artist. She has donated art to raise money for Healing Odyssey (retreats for women cancer survivors), www.healingodyssey.org and Breast Cancer Survivors (helping women meet expenses during treatment) www.bcsolutions.org. Paintings donated to the Richard Schmid Fine Art Auction to benefit the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department in Ft. Collins CO have been enthusiastically received and all have sold.
Mary Jo's paintings come from the heart and are personal as well as emotional journeys. Her goal is to continue using her paintings to bring joy to people who view her work. If a painting speaks to someone, she has accomplished what she set out to do in her art.
